Learning Korean? Study tips!
Dear patients and readers,
Learning a language can be a long and difficult process. But there are some things that can help significantly making it easier for you. Because like many of you, admins at Dr. Hallyu are also trying their best to learn the Korean language. So here are some tips which can be key in learning Korean.
Knowing how to read in Korean is essential, as it is key in the process of learning vocabulary and basically anything related to Korea and Korean language.
When you know how to read Hangeul, it is important to review.
When learning a language, what you want to achieve is to store what you've been studying in your long-term memory. Unless you have a photographic memory, the only way to achieve this is by constantly repeating what you've learned. This doesn't have to take up much time; 10 minutes a day are more effective than an hour in one sitting for a week.
A useful tool is Memrise or Quizlet. You can find pre-existing vocabulary lists to help you get started.
Learning a language is a process. When you're on your way to learn something new, you will make mistakes and that's okay. Mistakes can be learnt from. Find out what you did wrong, look up the correct way of saying it and try to memorize it.
Speaking with a native will greatly improve your pronunciation, speaking and listening skills. When you're able to hold a conversation with a native, you know you're doing well. Besides learning Korean, it'll also be an opportunity to make new friends. If you don't know where to find someone to practise Korean with, try to look for Korean language groups on Facebook or on apps such as HiNative.
